The day before...

It's the day before Thanksgiving and I had the busiest shipping day yet of our little company!

I spent part of yesterday emailing one of the principles at Blue Bottle about the true nature of 'Eco' in the use of tins for coffee over the continued use of lined bags. Blue Bottle is also using a simple tin for one of their micro-lots and I have chosen to use a tin as a lead-in to a delivery system that doesn't use lined, valves bags in the hope of less waist. It's not as simple as I portray but it could be a truly sustainable system if I take the time to do it right. It didn't work too well for Peet's coffee when they tried it, but that was then.

So, as the holidays approach I'm stoked to be making excellent coffee and looking forward to spending time with my family!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I spent the morning at The Kitchen Porch making some Mexican Oaxaca organic pour-over for the participants and chefs. Lots of fun and very interesting philosophies regarding charcuterie. Thanks to Jan and Aaron for inviting me and serving my coffee all week!

Hurricane Sandy!

Well, we certainly did get some very strong wind and huge wind gusts out here on this sand bar during the hurricane, but minus a few tree tops and big branches, we are just fine. Roasting shed and all associated exhaust ductwork is still in tact and I plan a quick once over all my equipment just to be sure.

Jenny and I are gearing up for the holidays! We plan on having lots of great coffee available for subscriptions and as gift baskets.

I'd also like to say thanks to Doug Smith at Lucky Hanks in Edgartown who adds us as their coffee of choice this week!!

I can't believe it's mid-August already! We've had a great summer so far. The West Tisbury Farmer's Market has been a really fun event to take part in and the markets continue til the end of September. We've been talking to people about our coffee, having a ton of people taste it as iced cold brew, bottled cold brew and hot coffee. Todd draws a crowd when he does a few pour-overs and we've even lugged our Alex Duetto espresso machine to the market to serve shots of our Single Speed. Our new roaster from Deidrich, the IR 5, is up and running thank goodness. Todd worked with it for a few weeks before roasting in earnest and the production is great! Thanks everyone for drinking Chilmark Coffee!

Our new website

Well, it's taken me a long time to design and upload my website. I have no excuses except doing all the graphics, roasting and packaging and designing takes a lot of time! Now that all this is done, I can spend all my focus on roasting some of the best coffee available. That is the goal.
Thanks for checking our site and for buying our coffee!

My New Adventure!

Many of my friends have listened to me for years speak of my desire to do something fun in business. These ideas had always spun around the cycling world and my desire to be involved in bike sales. Well, things didn't work out that way. I still love two wheels, turning the pedals and pinning on a number, but I decided to go toward my other favorite habit. So, after years of being a spectator coffee junkie I am now a dedicated coffee roaster with my own company. I'm planning to have this blog as a record and diary of this new adventure. Join me as I roast coffee, play with my family and live life on Martha's Vineyard!
